Index calculation

The calculator divides the selected ending FHFA HPI® index by the selected starting index, then multiplies that ratio by the value entered by the user.

For example, if the regional index increased by 25 percent over the selected period, a value entered by the user is increased by the same 25 percent for the estimate.

Displayed metrics

Quarter-over-quarter, year-over-year, 5-year, 10-year, and since-start changes are calculated from the imported index series for that region or context page.

When a value is not present in the imported data, the site shows Not available rather than fabricating a replacement.
